Train from Khon Kaen to Khorat

Traveling by train through Thailand is a lot of fun. You meet local people and enjoy some nice scenery. And it’s cheap!!! But for this you have to travel 3rd class and during daytime.

I made a trip from Udonthani to Khorat, straight through the rural part of Thailand with a stopover at Khon Kaen. The early train leaves Khon Kaen at 8.00 and takes about 4 hours to get to Khorat. I believe the ticket was about 38 baht. Along the way it will stop at several tiny villages surrounded by lots of rice fields and sugar plantations. 

The below two videos cover the second leg of the trip from Khon Kaen to Khorat. Both are large Thai cities in a part of Thailand which is called Esaan. This part of Thailand is non touristy and way cheaper then Bangkok. Little English is spoken and the food is sometimes unrecognizable!

Bang Krachao, Bangkoks green lung biking tour If you love to be active but have seen all of the tourist highlights of Bangkok a biking tour at Bang Krachao might be something for you. And the best thing is you can arrange it all by your self. Bang Krachao is the green lung of Bangkok. It's like an  peninsula  in the south of Bangkok across the Chao Praya river. Samut Sakhon fish market

Samut Sakhon is a small town about 35 kilometers outside of Bangkok. It is near the sea and famous for its fresh seafood market. Each morning fishing boats arrive to unload their catch of fish, shrimp or crab. The boats will dock at the auction place and from there on the seafood will find its way to the market and eventually end up in the restaurants of Bangkok later that day. Visiting Samut Sakhon is an excellent day trip. You can easily arrange it on your own. Catch the BTS skytrain to Wong Wian Yai station and from there walk to Wong Wian Yai Railway station. It’s about 500 meter, just aks for directions or take a motorbike taxi. Another way to reach the train station is by taxi, just wave one down on the streets. Before you get in make sure the driver puts on the meter! Every hour a train will depart for Samut Sakhon Mahachai station and it will take around 1 hour to get there. The train is old and loud.
